Learning how to use a Knitting Machine

Once again, I have fallen victim to doom scrolling on Instagram. Recently, I’ve come across a contraption called a knitting machine, and after playing around with it, it’s safe to say I love it. It’s easy to get started and learn, but quite finicky when you use it.

This was the product I used

The type of knitting machine I’m going to be talking about today, is a circular Knitting machine. You pass some wool, back and forth alternating between each peg on the machine, as you crank the dial at the same time. Then depending on what you make, you crank the handle to create hundreds of rows. I made a scarf, and it ended up being 500 rows, my wrist definitely hurt by the end!

I have started to really take an interest with textiles, as seen in the rest of my blog, and this is a good way to make commercial products fast, such as hats and scarfs if you’re looking to go down that route. My current favourite item to make (and probably the easiest), is woolly hats! Especially when you make it a waffle pattern one!

By manually threading the wool on the pegs in different ways, you can create fun unique patterns that are a lot more interesting than just cranking the same type of row for 100 rows.

I think this is a great way to start knitting without learning how to actually knit, however if you know how to do both, when you combine them together you can make amazing pieces of work.
